The Hammer

Son Of Cloud

For thirty years of my life I worked in the fires
Smelting and shaping and pounding iron
Little by little, it began to take shape
The most beautiful thing that I ever did make

A nine pound hammer of gold with a hilt made of oak
That I sanded and polished each day till it glowed
And I let myself dream that my hammer and me
Would one day be destined to build great things

But no buildings got made, the dream started to fade
Instead of constructing, I could only cause pain
And I saw why my dream was destined to fail
Because when you’re holding a hammer
The whole world looks like a nail

So I'm putting my hammer away
And I'm trying to transform my pain
I know I’ll keep building, but it can’t be this way
Yeah I'm putting my hammer away
