The Spanish

Sergio Umbria

The Spanish has always been the culture of appearance
That culture invaded all of America, teaching
A religion that was not the one our ancestors had
And for being in good agreement with the Spanish crown and religion, they murdered
To many indigenous people

They created a social separation, saying that there are races
There are distinguished classes, and the marginal class, the distinguished
Where were the rich, millionaires, wealthy whites
And the marginals, where the people are, the Indian, the black
The one who earns his livelihood with the sweat of his brow

The Spanish has always been the culture of appearance
That culture invaded all of America, teaching
A religion that was not the one our ancestors had
And for being in good agreement with the Spanish crown and religion, they murdered
To many indigenous people

They taught that only the wealthy sat in churches
And that the richest, that is, the ladies and gentlemen in the seats
Front, and that the marginals standing at the end of the church
They taught that the Indians and blacks do not enter heaven, as if they were
The owners of heaven

The Spanish has always been the culture of appearance
That culture invaded all of America, teaching
A religion that was not the one our ancestors had
And for being in good agreement with the Spanish crown and religion, they murdered
To many indigenous people
