The Purl

Mountains of the Moon

I was born on top of the mountain
Held by the wilderness, captured by the nothing
Little did I know, but helplessly hoping
Far, far away from the liberating ocean

Then in a bout of fever
Under shivers I cracked
Did I come out a winner?
Well, will I ever know that?
But I slowly brooded my egg to hatch

Times I felt I failed from the onset
I was lost in that part of the forest
Little did I know, I was close by a short step
Heard the purl and the world blasted open

Then I was gone forever
I would never come back
I'm coming down the river
Down the river I raft
And I'm slowly bringing my sail to mast

Wide open sea, I can see, or I'm trying
I thought I'd be free, but it's mostly terrifying
Little did I know, here is no place for hiding
Times I miss the times up on the mountain

Then as the rogue wave throws me I am losing my flow
Should I just give myself up to where the wind wants me to go?

Am I only fooling myself?
Am I slowly losing myself?
Am I so many more miles from home?
