I wanted you before I knew
What love was, what it meant to choose

It only needs room inside the heart's direction
While everything changes around us
While time transforms who we both become

Or ask you to be who you've stopped being

It only has to remain real
There were days when loving meant waiting
Others when I had to learn to step away
There were losses I could not prevent
And moments when all I could do was stay
We built a life between the two of us
And we kept changing without losing our voice

While everything changes around us
