Brazil for Brazilians!

Astrikos Katoikos

Open the dungeons once again
Scrub every wall of every stain
Some people beg for yesterday
And cast their ballots anyway

Pack up the books and close the schools
Strip every lab of facts and tools
The charlatan commands the stage
While reason languishes in cage

Prepare the queues for bones and scraps
Hunger remembers all the maps
Misery knows its old address
Where fortunes flourish on distress

Go hunt for meat inside the trash
Collect the grease beside the ash
Then thank the fatherland once more
For teaching hunger to the poor

Brazil unearthed its servitude
And crowned old crimes with rectitude
Gave fresh command to those who slew
And sold regression dressed as new

The butcher gains authority
The dead become obscurity
Submission wears a freedom mask
While history resumes its task

The scientist will face the stand
While fraud receives the upper hand
Each vaccine meets another trial
While lies are broadcast with a smile

A teacher turns into a threat
When students challenge what is set
The university bars the poor
While wealth walks freely through the door

The forest comes with title deeds
The miner takes whatever bleeds
Invaders seize ancestral ground
While legal seals are passed around

The rivers drink their Mercury
The countryside gets weaponry
Then someone kisses green and gold
And swears the nation has been saved

Brazil unearthed its servitude
And crowned old crimes with rectitude
Gave fresh command to those who slew
And sold regression dressed as new

The butcher gains authority
The dead become obscurity
Submission wears a freedom mask
While history resumes its task

The senators begin to count
The courthouse seats they hope to mount
Convenient judges fill the hall
While institutions learn to crawl

The law becomes a barricade
Whenever power feels betrayed
Democracy receives acclaim
When those in charge can rig the game

The poor collect discarded cans
And fight for scraps from richer hands
The market rings its closing bell
And calls their hunger doing well

The banker wants another break
The boss demands a larger take
For those surviving on their pay
Come lectures while their rights decay

They sell the country piece by piece
And call surrender a release
The States receive the bowed salute
While we inherit bitter fruit

The colony displays its pride
With dollar masters at its side
It trades the country for a meal
And brands submission as a deal

Sixty-four was never gone
Its faithful heirs still march along
Ask those who bore the prison scar
How dead those years of terror are

Ask families denied a grave
Whose missing kin no state would save
The vanished never made it home
Their families searched for flesh and bone

The general gets his portrait framed
The torturer leaves unashamed
The victim stands accused once more
The butcher walks through honor's door

Then smiling faces wonder why
The buried years refuse to die
As though Brazil had never known
The bitter crop that it had sown

Brazil now courts its former fate
And welcomes horror through the gate
Who pardons those who worked the rack
Prepares the road that brings them back

So many cells where bodies stayed
So many graves that power made
And still the nation would restore
The nightmare it condemned before

Out with the cia!
No more orders from the usa!
Out with the cia!
No more operation condor!

The past need never knock or wait
It knows the house, the lock, the gate
It knows who keeps the doorway wide
And who will welcome it inside

They market bondage as reform
Make old oppression seem the norm
Then fascists claim the keys again
And lock tomorrow in their chain

Brazil for Brazilians!
Brazil for Brazilians!
