Cold Applause
Victor Moonwalker
Everybody starts applauding
When they think the show is done
But I haven't left the stage yet
I have only just begun
Smiling faces in the front row
Never tell me what they mean
Everybody loves the picture
Nobody knows what's in between
Clap your hands
Make it loud
Tell me what you're cheering about
Cold applause
Cold applause
I can hear it through the walls
Everybody loves you
Right before they watch you fall
Cold applause
Cold applause
Echoes underneath the lights
If you're waiting for my ending
You'll be waiting here all night
Spotlights make the room look golden
But the backstage stays the same
People love you when you're winning
Then forget to say your name
I don't need another trophy
I don't need another crown
Give me something that is honest
When the curtain's coming down
Clap your hands
Make it loud
Tell me what you're cheering about
Cold applause
Cold applause
I can hear it through the walls
Everybody loves you
Right before they watch you fall
Cold applause
Cold applause
Echoes underneath the lights
If you're waiting for my ending
You'll be waiting here all night
No cameras
No crowd
No voices shouting loud
When the lights disappear
Tell me who is standing here
Cold applause
Cold applause
Let the final curtain fall
I don't need a room of strangers
To convince me who I am
Cold applause
Cold applause
Let the empty theater fade
When tomorrow starts again
I'll still be standing on the stage
No applause
No disguise
Just the truth beneath the lights
